༻ REVIEW ༺ THE UPSIDE OF FALLING (THE BLUE LINE #1) BY MEGHAN QUINN

TITLE: The Upside of Falling
AUTHOR: Meghan Quinn
GENRE:  Romance
PUBLICATION: June 21st, 2018

THE UPSIDE OF FALLING:
Is the first romance book in the ‘Blue Line duet’ by new to me author Meghan Quinn. In this we meet Colby & Rory.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

The ‘Prologue’ introduces us to ten year old Colby, as he hangs out with his Gramps discussing planes, which is one of his most favourite things to do. He aspires to be just like his Granddad and hopes to one day become a fighter pilot just like him.

A few years ago his dad was diagnosed with an incurable disease called mantel-cell lymphoma which he found difficult to get his head around being only ten.

Things change within the household in a blink of an eye when his father passes away. This was the catalyst which changed Colby forever.

Then it jumps and it seems as though Colby is living the dream where he’s a trainee at the Air Force Academy with his friend Stryder whom he met on the first day of basic training induction, three years later and they are still the best of friends.

RORY: God when she set her sights on Colby at a party neither of them wanted to be at, that's when all her stalker tendencies came into play, this girl did not give up, she chased him down until he was in such a tailspin that all he thought about was her, and finally he gave into her and jumped in with both feet.

I sympathised with Colby, his story was heartbreaking, he came across very dominant when it came to his one true passion, but anything to do with his past and we saw that alpha attitude diminish and in it's place was that sad little broken boy we saw, at times Rory had to hold him up on may occasions which made for hard reading but also gave you a stronger connection with his character, he was such a soft hearted broken down guy, with walls surrounding him, until Rory.

Admittedly this took me a wee bit to get into then it just came into it's own and I started to fall under the same spell all the other readers before me had. I'm even ashamed to admit that this is the first time that I have picked up a book by this author..Seeing all the glowing reviews, bloggers/readers gushing about how much they loved this book made me dust off the trusty zip zap and I one clicked faster than you could blink.
I loved the simplicity of this story, a real life feel to it that brought all the feels, a girl that was determined on not giving up, and a guy that was so closed off until her.
Tucked away at the base of the Rocky Mountains lived a little boy with one singular dream: leave this broken and battered home and become someone.

Be somebody’s hero.

That boy was me—Colby Brooks. Except I’m not that same little boy anymore.
My dreams might still be the same, but my reality isn’t.

I’m smarter. Stronger. A man.

And I learned a long damn time ago, the only way to achieve my dreams was to avoid distractions—at any cost.

Focus. Resolve. Determination.

But all it took was one single night. One night and my entire life…changed.

One night had me colliding head first with the biggest distraction of my life; Rory Oaks.

Smart. Charming. Beautiful.

Rory changed everything.

Quickly, my one-track mind started to bend.

Each kiss faded decade-long dreams.
And with one single incident, I fly off course.

When I was in high school I occasionally read books but was consumed by other teenage things so I didn't take the time to appreciate a good book on a cloudy day, wrapped up in a blanket on the couch. It wasn't until I received a Kindle for Christmas one year that my world completely flipped upside down. When looking for books I came across the Contemporary Romance genre and was sold and I haven't turned back since.

You can either find my head buried in my Kindle, listening to inspiring heart ripping music or typing away on the computer twisting and turning the lives of my characters while driving my readers crazy with anticipation.
I currently reside in beautiful Colorado Springs where the sun is always shining and there is a trail waiting to be hiked on every corner. I share a lovely and warm home with the love of my life and my five, four-legged children.
