☆★ REVIEW | ARC ★☆ THE TRUTH ABOUT LIES (THE TRUTH DUET #1) BY ALY MARTINEZ

TITLE: The Truth About Lies
SERIES: (The Truth Duet #1)
AUTHOR: Aly Martinez
GENRE: Contemporary Romance
PUBLICATION: August 23rd, 2018
Truth: From over a thousand miles away, I watched on the screen of my phone as two men murdered my wife. And I was helpless to save her.

Consumed by hate and rage, I spent four years running from my memories.

Until a shattered woman gave me a reason to stop.

Cora lived in a nightmare, but through sheer force of will, she’d turned it into something beautiful. She had a smile that could pierce the darkest soul. And with one glance, she shredded mine.

Lie: I was only there for a fresh start.
Lie: I had no idea what I was getting myself into.
Lie: There was nothing I could do to save her, either.

But that’s the thing about lies—you never know who to believe.

I'd always hated lies. I'd spent most of my life having them fed to me. As far as I was concerned, they only lulled a person into a state of false security.

THE TRUTH ABOUT LIES:
is a full-length novel and is the first book in Author Aly Martinez’s ‘The Truth’ duet. Spoken in ‘Dual Perspectives.

First off the synopsis gives you no indication at all what the book is really about, so that what my first surprise going into this because nothing prepared me for what I was going to read.

Straight away your pulled into a gritty situation as Penn hears the last breaths of his dying wife over the phone as they are connected via video calls on their mobile phones. Two men break into her hotel room and end her life in a matter of twenty nine minutes.

Thirty-seven year old Penn was such a complex character, he was hard to read, you're not given much information about him to begin with other than him losing his wife in such a tragic way, so it's hard to garner what his real agenda was, it's not until the end we're privy to more info about him and that's another twist in the book that had me siting on the edge of my seat.

One in. One out. As a reminder that, no matter how hard things get, everything will be fine as long as you just keep breathing.

Twenty-nine year old Cora was unlike any heroine I’ve encountered before, she’s tough on the outside but within she loves hard, she protects her family like a bear with her cubs. Dante Guerrero owned her, trapped in a life she desperately wanted t escape from, she would willingly sell her soul to the devil just to break free from the life she's made to live.

Neither of them are unfamiliar to pain, of losing a loved one, of having to move on without the other.

Going into this I kind of sort of didn’t know what to expect, we’re given the fact that Penn loses his wife but other than that tiny tidbit we’re not given much else to go by, this was so unique, so different, so unpredictable, so unputdownable, this book takes you so by surprise, it's raw, it's gritty, characters you can relate to, sad pasts like no others before them. Before you know it you’re hooked, before you know it you’ve read this in record time. And you’re left wanting, needing the next book. This was a slow moving, slow burn kind of book, once I moved over the half way mark it got it's hooks into me fully, I couldn't put it down, I needed, wanted, the next book.
