Getting home has never been so treacherous

When an EMP takes down the power grid and everything that runs on a computer chip, Melissa has no choice but to walk from her office in downtown Salt Lake City to her home in a suburb fifteen miles south. With a few co-workers to keep her company, she isn’t too worried—until they begin their journey and discover how quickly society can fall apart.

Alex, Melissa’s husband, works thirty blocks south of Melissa’s office. When everything stops working he has to decide whether to head north and find Melissa or go in the opposite direction to see if their teenaged children made it home. Only trouble is, he’s by himself and danger is everywhere.

☀︎ CHAOS BEGINS ☀︎
Is the first full length post apocalyptic book in the (EMP Collapse) series by new to me author Christine Kersey. This story follows the main characters Alex and his wife Melissa and their treacherous journey as each try to reach home from opposite directions.

I'm always drawn to these types of stories when shit hits the fan how prepared are you? So when this was recommended to me I thought I'd give it a read..

I live in the country, 45 minutes away from the nearest anything, other than a small overpriced dairy down the road, we've been having power cuts weekly, most ranging from a day to 2x days, with the power company not knowing the cause, so due to that I had to stock up on candles, flashlights, batteries etc. I can handle 2x max but longer without power I would not be prepared..

This starts off with a strong start, showcasing every day people thrown into utter chaos when a EMP hits the power grid and everything simultaneously stops. People thrown into a panic, not knowing what's happened, many at work, wondering how they're going to reach home, especially if it's miles away, when all vehicles have stopped running other than older models which aren't run by a computer chip..

Melissa wasn't what you'd call a modern day or old school preeper but they did have a few supplies stored at home due to a neighbours suggestion and the havoc covid placed on food stores and panic buying, which with the state of the world today, panic buying has occurred yet again.

Melissa's top priority is getting home to her family, on foot with a small group of co-workers who are going in the same direction. Her journey is full of strife and not many will make it to their destination.

Hubby Alex is also in the same boat with a need to get home and protect his family and hope that Melissa has made it back from work in one piece.

I liked the concept of this story, and it flowed perfectly with enough crap hitting the fan to keep me invested, the only thing when it came to Alex's journey it just seemed too unrealistic, there they were pushing groceries home in trollies, from a hoard at the supermarket when his thought was how much easier it would be if they had an older vehicle at their disposal, then what do you know (without mishap) one just dropped into their laps.

Same thing with Melissa's story a female co-worker gets kidnapped then who other to bowl up on them and help them out is a person trained in that area of expertise.

How convenient..

But even those two things still didn't stop me from enjoying the story. And has me invested to carry on with this series..

☀︎ CHAOS RISES☀︎
Is the second full length post apocalyptic book in the (EMP Collapse) series by new to me author Christine Kersey. The follow up journey of our main characters Alex and his wife Melissa.

They made it home relatively unscathed other than their son who sustained a gunshot wound to his leg. Now their back on home turf.

Within moments of arriving home they've already heard of a home invasion within their neighbourhood where the family was killed during the night, was it someone within their own neighbourhood or someone who snuck in?

Tensions escalate
Worries ignite

What I like about this couple is that they are a normal everyday couple, Alex doesn't have a military background and Melissa is a mum who worked full time so it's really refreshing watching them navigate and adapt to this changing world they have been thrust into. They work as a team whilst protecting their family while also trying to work within the neighbourhood as a larger group which is where the Cooperative was set in place. Most books I've read in this genre it's each to their their own, so to see a large neighbourhood and surrounds trying to come together had me favouring this series more.

They weren't preppers but they were semi prepared for the unexpected due to their neighbour Stan urging them to stock up on items each week. So over some of the others they were standing pretty good.

❝If people in her own neighborhood, people who she'd thought were at east somewhat prepared for emergencies, were running out of food, what was happening outside of their neighborhood?.❞

There was evil in the world before the EMP but now that evil is crawling out of the shadows and wanting to take the people's food within the neighborhood which has been set aside within a secluded safe location.

A traiter is residing within their neighbourhood sharing information to outsiders pinpointing the right time to come and attack and steal their food supplies whilst everyone is attending a neighborhood community meeting. And such an attack occurred downing a few of the their folks. But also in the crossfires is Melissa herself and their daughter.

But other than food what about medical supplies, extra firewood, ammunition, fuel, I know Alex and Melissa set up a greenhouse but I would've thought as part of a larger group they would've met up and set up a vegetable garden on a larger scale that each person had to work on and contribute so it fed them as a whole. Or maybe that's what Melissa is working towards once they sprout?

☀︎ CHAOS SOARS ☀︎
Is the third full length post apocalyptic book in the (EMP Collapse) series by new to me author Christine Kersey. The follow up journey of our main characters Alex and his wife Melissa. Spoken in dual POV's.

Each books picks up where the previous left off, and due to this they are definitely best to be read in order. These are so easy to get into, and so hard to put down. I'm so glad this series was pointed out because I'm really enjoying them.

I started this one in bed last night and I'm just about finished it, loving the on going adrenaline pumping narrative this series is providing me so far, each book is spiking up a notch in action..

This starts off where the morning after the attack occurred on the neighborhoods prized food bank with one survivor from that attack detained for questioning to gather information about the traitor that's sharing information back to that group and finding out where they are based.

More blood shed, kidnapping, brutality.

The only positive outcome the EMP had created within its destruction was the strong bonds and friendships the neighborhood was creating, new friendships and old forming.

Even though there is a cop amongst this ragtag group he doesn't overshadow the other characters with his skill set, he relies on the others to have his back and vice versa, he doesn't try to take leadership in any situation which I really like about this series.

☀︎ CHAOS COLLIDES ☀︎
Is the fourth full length post apocalyptic book in the (EMP Collapse) series by new to me author Christine Kersey. The follow up journey of our main characters Alex and his wife Melissa. Spoken in dual POV's.

I will never learn..I really need to write up my review before jumping into the next book because life would be sooooo much easier..But nooooooo I just never learn..

Working as a team and the safety in numbers that entails after Alex and Melissa's home is burnt down to a crisp and nothing but the clothes on their backs they move into their friends house which is really only a temporary solution until they can come up with a better plan..

And Melissa has an idea about that, she just has to convince the others. Her sister Heather has a homestead with her husband and children about two hundred and fifty miles south of their neighborhood living off grid and self sufficient.

But they still needed to leave their residence and go into the neighborhood that had their food supplies.

There's never a dull moment in these books, the hits keep coming, and it's always centered around the shortage of food, many are starving, many have died, children are hungry, tempers are rising, fights are escuating, the food bank is out of supplies, guarding what you and your family have is a full time job.

And now it's come down to the crunch,, those that have plenty need to give to ones who have nothing.

But that's the least of their problems, now a Government is stepping in and ordering everyone in the neighborhood to relinquish their firearms in exchange for food, many disagree, many others who have run out of food heartily agree, discord amongst those who need to protect their families aren't so easy to persuade upping up the reality that maybe they do need to take action and leave the neighborhood and make a move to Melissa's sisters place taking a few of their allies along with them.

Leaving is without it's problems.

My Review
☀︎ CHAOS SOARS ☀︎
Is the fifth length post apocalyptic book in the (EMP Collapse) series by new to me author Christine Kersey.

This is where Alex and Melissa's group of close friends and families from their neighbour are heading towards which is Heather's place who is Melissa's sister.

New family, new location, new threats.

This family is better equipped to see out the new world they are facing, though I wouldn't call them harcore preppers exactly but they were better off than a lot of their neighbours with a stocked pantry, a basement full of food and a faraday cage which didn't fry their devices.

It's the outside threats that were causing the most havoc, not just to this family but to the community as a whole, though this family didn't come away unscathed, especially when their own daughter was kidnapped right out from under their noses whilst keeping the first watch inside their families house, the hits kept on coming.

Thank you Amazon KU because I grabbed this whole series and am going through them faster than I thought possible, so easy to get into, the pace of each book is perfect blending action and survival into perspective perfectly.

Yet again I powered through this book, like the previous books beforehand, couldn't and didn't want to put it down. These do increase the blood pressure a bit, just makes me so mad that others think they can come into a families own residence and expect to just help themselves to their provisions that they have saved, scrimped and purchased to feed their family.

Scott was very similar to Alex (Melissa's husband) just a normal run of the mill sort of guy, no previous military training, quick tempered when provoked and would do anything to protect his family, he doesn't come away from this without blood on his hands.
