📚ARC REVIEW 📚BENNETT MAFIA BY TIJAN

28 February 2019

There were always whispers about my roommate at Hillcrest Academy.

The wealthiest of the wealthy sent their kids to our boarding school, and Brooke Bennett had been at the top, though I never quite knew why. She was fun and outgoing, but she kept quiet about her family. The only things she showed me were photographs of her brothers.

I became fascinated with her second-oldest brother. Kai Bennett.

He was the most of them all. Smoldering. Hypnotic. Alluring.
Kai had eyes that pulled me in and a face that haunted my dreams.

Then I met him.

He came to our school with their father, and that’s when I learned what kind of family Brooke came from. They were mafia, and Brooke’s oldest brother was dead. Her father said accident, but Brooke said murder.

Three months later, her father died, and Kai became the head of the Bennett Family. Brooke left Hillcrest for good, and that was the last time I saw her.

Fourteen years later, I’m staring at her face on the television. Brooke is missing.

Two days later, Kai Bennett kidnaps me.

BENNETT MAFIA:
Is a full length New Adult novel by Tijan. In this we’re introduced to Riley Bello plus Kai Bennett and his siblings.

Anything by this author I tend to jump on it, she could rewrite the phone book and I’d beg for a copy!!

PAST: At the centre of the story is Brooke Bennett the mafia Princess, she was Riley’s roommate at boarding school when they were in their teens. She tended to be very closed mouth about her family but the photos on the wall told another story entirely. It was one such photo that Riley was drawn to, and that was of Kai, the second eldest brother. He just had more of a presence, he seemed more intimidating than his siblings, everything about him just screamed more. And the fact that they were mafia and ruthless should've screamed keep away, but it seemed to have the opposite effect.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

PRESENT: Today’s news broadcasts a missing person, and that missing person is Riley’s old roommate Brooke. They were no longer roommates, you could even say they were no longer best friends. All that ended thirteen years ago. Riley is no longer the Riley we know, she’s a completely different person. Today Riley goes by the name Raven Hastings, ives with two other roommates, and works at a nursing home where she worked as a nursing aide. But there is so much more to her story.

Kai wants to get to the bottom of his sisters disappearance and he thinks Raven knows more than she's letting on and the only way in his eyes to do that is to kidnap her!!

Our heroine Riley is a strong compassionate fierce character, she will protect those she loves fiercely.

Our hero Kai is a dark, broody, ruthless alpha male and a force to be reckoned with, but he’s also honest to a fault.

I am everything that's bad in this world. You are everything that's good, and I am turning you into me. I hate myself when I look at you. You reflect everything wrong in me, every time I'm inside of you.

Under the same roof these two cannot hide their attraction for each other, it sizzles off the pages, no matter how hard they try to fight it.

Mafia reads are my kryptonite, one of my go to genres of all time, they offer enough darkness, angst, and the romance I need all in a nice package. Finding out Tijan was bringing us another mafia read I was signing up without even reading the blurb, one look at the author sealed the deal.
The only reason why I’m giving this 4 stars and not 5 is the beginning came across stilted, with vast gaps in the timeline, which made it hard for me to connect to the storyline, I didn’t understand their childhood friendship because it was glossed over, but the further i got into the storyline it just flowed ceaselessly, and the pace picked up and that’s when it came into its own for me. I couldn’t put it down. Chapters just flew by. I inhaled it.

RELEASE BLITZ & REVIEW ➽ IRRESISTIBLE BY MELANIE HARLOW

26 February 2019

Irresistible FOR WEB.jpg

I’m a full-time single dad to three daughters and CFO at Cloverleigh Farms. I don’t have time to fall in love—I’m too busy trying to run a business, keep the red socks out of the white laundry, and get the damn pillowcases on without owing a dollar to the swear jar. Sure, Frannie Sawyer is beautiful and sweet, but she’s twenty-seven, the boss’s daughter, and my new part-time nanny—which means she’s completely off-limits. It’s bad enough I can’t stop fantasizing about her, what kind of jerk would I be if I acted on the impulse to kiss her? (Exactly the kind of jerk you’re thinking.) Actually, I’m worse than that—because I didn’t stop with a kiss, and now I can’t stay away. She makes me feel like myself again. She reminds me what it’s like to want something just for me. She’s everything I ever needed, but nothing I ever imagined. I’m a former Marine. I should have had the strength to resist her from the start. But I didn’t. And now I have to choose between the life I want and the life she deserves. Even if it means giving her up.

ARC REVIEW ➽ THE LAST LETTER BY REBECCA YARROS

25 February 2019

Beckett,

If you’re reading this, well, you know the last-letter drill. You made it. I didn’t. Get off the guilt train, because I know if there was any chance you could have saved me, you would have.
I need one thing from you: get out of the army and get to Telluride.
My little sister Ella’s raising the twins alone. She’s too independent and won’t accept help easily, but she has lost our grandmother, our parents, and now me. It’s too much for anyone to endure. It’s not fair.
And here’s the kicker: there’s something else you don’t know that’s tearing her family apart. She’s going to need help.
So if I’m gone, that means I can’t be there for Ella. I can’t help them through this. But you can. So I’m begging you, as my best friend, go take care of my sister, my family.

Please don’t make her go through it alone.

THE LAST LETTER:
Is a full length romance novel by new to me author Rebecca Yarros.
Spoken in ‘Dual POV’s.

Chaos is a special ops with his trusty Labrador retriever Havoc by his side, being abandoned by his mother he bounced from foster home to foster home most of his life, until he was of age to enlist, having no family of his own his best friend Ryan also serving time in the military convinces his younger sister Ella to write deployment letters to Chaos since he receives no letters from the outside world.

Ella MacKenzie is a twenty-four year old single mother of two five year old twins (a girl Maisie and Colt a boy One soul split between two bodies), and owner of a quaint B&B with fifteen secluded cabins on a vast two hundred acre property called Solitude in Telluride Colorado, which she took over when her Grandmother died.

It was via these letters that these two connected, by words alone they became each others confidante, which Ella needed more than anything in the on coming months when things get turned upside down as she confesses all her highs and lows to a man she has never even seen a photo of and only given his call name Chaos.

Somewhere between letter number one and letter number twenty-four, I'd fallen in love with her. Fallen for her words, her strength, her insight and kindness, her grace under impossible circumstances, her love for her children, and her determination to stand on her own.

As the synopsis divulges, Ryan is killed in active duty where he leaves his last letter to his best friend Beckett pleading that he look after Ella and the kids which sees Beckett staying in one of Ella's cabins for the next seven months where he slowly infiltrates himself in Ella's and the kids lives. Beckett is a godsend, he steps in and becomes her pillar of strength during a time of need, because she's going to have to lean on him to get through what life has thrown at her.

I’m a sucker for military reads, they always tend to hit the heart hard. This book was one of my most highly anticipated books of February, from a new to me author. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. Once I started, I couldn’t put it down, I devoured it, inhaled it, gobbled it up like I’d not eaten for years, loving the words this author shared with us.

Reading through this I knew that I was going to be in a world of pain, and then just when I thought we'd put all that behind us I was hit with a whammy, the pain that shot through my heart was unbearable, it made for hard reading, the tears came quickly, my heart broke in half, how much could one character endure because this book was brutal, it took no prisoners, just loved ones. It definitely put me through my paces, threw everything it could at me, all the feels and heartbreak walked hand in hand as it brought me to my knees, nothing prepared me for this book.

I cried, I sighed, I swooned, I raged, I loved..

This is just the beginning for me when it comes to this author, I can’t wait to read more by her.

ARC REVIEW ➽ WHEN AUGUST ENDS BY PENELOPE WARD

23 February 2019

From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward, comes a new standalone novel.

What do you do when a sexy, older man moves into your family’s summer rental?

Well, apparently, you make a fool of yourself—over and over. Things didn’t exactly get off on the right foot with Noah Cavallari. Our first encounter was embarrassing, to say the least.

But despite that, I found myself waking up every day with a newfound energy. Nothing exciting ever happened on the lake—not until Noah moved into the small boathouse on our property. He’d booked it for the entire summer…and I was still trying to figure out why.

When my mother became ill, I inherited the responsibility of making sure our guests were well taken care of. I should have been in college. Instead, I was living my best life…as a maid.

Dark, handsome, and mysterious, everything about Noah screamed forbidden.

I knew he was just passing through town for the summer.

I knew he was probably too old for me.

Yet, I was drawn to him.

Not to mention, he tried to save my life when he mistakenly thought I was drowning.

I wanted him and made no secret of it.

His own attempts to warn me away soon gave way to late-night moonlight chats by the lake. We were slowly easing into a friendship that was gearing up to explode into something I might not recover from.

Because he’s leaving at the end of the summer.

And I have no idea what I’ll do when August ends.

WHEN AUGUST ENDS:
Is a full length romance novel by Penelope Ward.

Twenty year old Heather Chadwick has reached a stalemate with her life, the soul caregiver of a housebound mother has taken its toll on her life aspirations, she'd made a few big sacrifices for her mother, with not being able to go away to college a lot of responsibility rests on her head. For the past several years they have rented out a converted boathouse on their property at Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire to bring in the extra income that entails. But Heathers still has to works five nights a week at the local pub to help with their daily needs.

Enter Noah Cavallari a much older guy, who has rented out the boathouse for the whole summer, which is unheard of, generally most only rent it out for a few weeks and then go on their way.

Thinking the boathouse is unoccupied since his truck isn't parked out front she enters to make up his bed and give it a general tidy up, the last thing she expects to see is him coming from the bathroom area only draped in a towel, most would make their apologies and leave, but Heather was just too gobsmacked by how drop dead gorgeous he was and stood there glued to the spot staring.

This wasn't the only awkward moment these two characters share, believe me there is more to come. The second time she encountered him she'd yet again managed to piss him off within seconds. It seemed Noah was either scolding me or laughing at me. There was no middle ground.

These two developed such a unique friendship, sometimes it took me out of my comfort zone as most of the time it wasn't smooth sailing. It was awkward at the best of times. She became obsessed with him, but didn't want to form an attachment with someone just passing through. For some inexplicable reason since you moved in, something has awakened inside of me. I wake up excited.

God there were sooooo many times, too many times to count, how uncomfortable I was reading this, Heather is just out there, like so out there, so young, but so old and wise in other ways, her awkwardness made me blush too many times to count. But god how I loved her character, just so free and quirky, vivacious and full of life a breath of fresh air, so open and honest, so dorky, but so adorable, I cringed, I laughed, I facepalmed so many times throughout this book. But her character was so endearing.

Noah was a different kettle of fish entirely, so closed off and gruff, and so determined to keep his walls up, to keep her at a distance, but she was like a tornado once loose there was no stopping her crashing those walls to smithereens. He had no chance really. These two together were just perfection. I loved watching/reading as it all unfolded, the feels, the swoony moments, the sighs, such a sweet easy to love slow burn romance story.

Heather Chadwick-beautiful, young, wide-eyed, honest Heather Chadwick, whom I wanted to protect with every ounce of my soul as much as I wanted to taint her.

RELEASE BLITZ / REVIEW / GIVEAWAY ➽ STALK HER BY KER DUKEY

Ever get that feeling you’re being watched?
You probably are.
Her sad eyes.
Her thick lips.
Her long dark hair.
Her quickening of breath.
Her hurried footsteps.
Her undiluted fear.
The anxiety a woman has when she knows she’s being followed does something to the sadistic animal inside me.
We all have issues, mine just run a little deeper than most.
My sister and I had our childhood tarnished by an abusive parent. We grew up two very different breeds of our mothers’ creation.
When I discover the beautiful, yet broken, Alice Young. She’s seeking advice, a place to unburden her thoughts.
What she gets is a dangerous, callous predator who wants to quench his thirst with her tears.
My precious, Alice, feels so alone, but she’s not alone. I’m watching her.
Erik Ross feeds on the fear of others.
Alice Young may prove to be too damaged, for even his appetite.

Meet Author Ker Dukey

I have always had a passion for storytelling, whether it be through lyrics or bedtime stories with my sisters. I wanted to be an actress growing up so I could live many roles but I learned early on that my
mind was too active… I would want to change the script. I would watch films and think of ways they could have improved the story if they took another direction so I thought it best that I tell my own.
My mum would always have a book in her hand when I was young and passed on her love for reading, inspiring me to venture into writing my own. I tend to have a darker edge to my writing. Not all love stories are made of light, some are created in darkness but are just as powerful and worth telling.
When I’m not lost in the world of characters I love spending time with my family. I’m a mum and that comes first in my life but when I do get down time I love attending music concerts or reading events with my younger sister.
You can find me on Facebook where I love interacting with my readers.

RELEASE BLITZ & REVIEW ➽ WHAT HE NEVER KNEW (WHAT HE DOESN'T KNOW #3) BY KANDI STEINER

22 February 2019

WHNK Cover.png

I never learn my lesson.
And I always want what I can’t have.
When Sarah Henderson walks into my life, I tell myself she’s off limits. She’s my student, sixteen years younger than me, and my boss’s niece. It doesn’t matter that I see the same pain reflected in her eyes that I have in my own, or that the dead organ better known as my heart kicks to life when she’s around.
I’ve been here before, and I know how this ends.
It’s been two years since I fell for the last woman I knew I couldn’t have, the one with the ring on her finger that I chose to ignore.
Two years of trying to overcome that heartache when Sarah slides into my life.
Another woman I can’t have. Another woman I can’t stop myself from wanting.
I never learn my lesson, but with a constant reminder of how that last forbidden love burned, I think I’ve finally learned this one.
This time, I won’t chase what’s off limits.
This time, I’m staying away.
And I’ll keep telling myself that until I believe it.
