Blake: I am a brother I am a police detective I am a contract killer I don’t want to love I don’t want to feel I don’t want … EMPATHY.
They say some people are born with decreased activity in the front central lobe causing them a deficiency in empathy. Maybe that’s true about me but whether I was born this way or created in a moment of evil, empathy was something I didn’t possess until her green eyes met mine in the mirror and I couldn’t take her life.
I didn’t want to feel, didn’t want this woman in my life complicating how I lived but she was there at every turn. Sent to haunt me for my sins. Her light so bright she provoked a shadow from everyone she touched. When a job turns bad quickly altering my life forever I’m forced to feel. When nothing is making sense I’m forced to face truths I never would recover from. When life drowns you in its cruelty you don’t know which way the current will drag you or who you’ll become once you re-surface.
Melody: I was a daughter I was a student I was a victim Did I have his love? Did I make him feel? Did I have his empathy? When the actions of a soulless killer forces sorrow into my veins I never dreamed the man healing my wounds would be the one to leave the worst scar. His love would scar my soul. Scars are permanent; I will never feel the relief from them. Will I learn to live with them, remember why I have them and learn never to let him close enough to inflict more? Will I eventually cover them… like tattoos coating them with new memories, new love and new starts? I didn’t know these answers because the pain was too suffocating, the only thing I knew was they will always be under the surface lingering. He had scars too, from his sins. There is nothing that can cover them, they were too deep, too ugly, too dark and they marked us both forever.
Warning: This book will mess with your mind. It is a very dark, sexy, twisted romance novel. 18+ only.
4.5 Cereus Stars
They say some people are born with decreased activity in the brain; a cold spot in the front central lobe. Where most people have activity, a hot area giving them feelings, emotions and enabling them to love, there are a rare few who have a cold spot, affecting their ability to feel emotions, empathy.
Blake is positive he is born with a dark space in his brain where his meant to hold his emotions. There is only one person he cares about and that's his younger brother Ryan.
Melody is called home from college for a 'family' meeting only to find everyones worst nightmare.
Venturing further into the house, the blood from my palm trickles, leaking down my fingers leaving a dripping path like the breadcrumbs trail from Hansel and Gretel, only this trial leads further into a nightmare, fitting that it be blood.
What she doesn't know is who is behind the horrific mess or that she already knows them.
From the start of the book you can tell Ryan is a VERY dark person, granted he has reasons to have issues but it goes far beyond that. So it was interesting that through the book you see Ryan become more depraved and psychotic as the story progresses. The opposite happens with Blake who goes from evil callous killer to someone who actually cares. Melody is slowly breaking through his 'dark' but he has no idea how to cope with all these new feelings.
All the while poor Melody is trying to just live and come to terms with the fact she didn't die and find a way to move forward.
So within this story filled with horrific acts and very morbid thoughts, there is three separate journeys going on which made it so much better. One thing for sure was the heat between Blake and Melody is undeniable and some of their scenes are super hot.
This is a 'dark' read with both graphic violence and mentally disturbed people, so if you're thinking of reading it don't say I didn't warn you.
What a fantastically twisted ending that kind of slaps you in the face and left me thinking 'wow, didn't see that coming'. It is not a cliffhanger but leaves you intrigued enough to want to read more.
I've always followed my dreams with ruthless determination. My life was going well. Success was at my fingertips. Until it wasn't. All it took was three seconds to send my world crashing down around me, ripping my dreams to shreds. Then I meet her, with her large hazel eyes that slay me at first glance. And everything starts to make sense again. I try to keep my distance. To remind myself I am her mentor. That we can't be more, but every time I push away, I'm pulled deeper into her. The line between student and teacher is blurring. One kiss. One taste. They’re all it would take to cross the line.
The line between student and teacher is blurring. One kiss..One taste..They’re all it would take to cross that line.
Will these two succumb to temptation?
She wants it...I want it...Two adults...One goal...A goal that could get her expelled and me fired...
BREAKING GRAVITY: In the ’Prologue’ we’re witness to a devastating event which left Nathaniel Rowe traumatised and crippled by guilt that he couldn’t do more. It took less than three seconds in total for his world to come crumbling down around him. A promise he couldn’t keep.
Now he’s a shell of a man he used to be, unable to play the cello again, months of therapy and in constant pain.
Months and days filled with pain, struggle and eventually acceptance. I’d spent years chasing my dream and finally, when I was living it, one single event destroyed everything, changing the entire course of my life.
SIX MONTHS LATER: He’s left Chicago and is trying to make a new start in life in Florida teaching at Rushmore School of Music.
Elon Blake has had a secret crush on Nathaniel Rowe (9 years her senior) for as far back as she can remember, from following his career with the Chicago Symphony up to his retirement three years ago from an injury, has had her striving to be as good as him. Until he just up and vanished off the face of the earth. To finding out he was going to be her Associate Professor teaching music theory at Rushmore school of music in the class she attends has her struggling to keep her feelings under wraps.
The man in front of me looks like an avenging angel, sent to earth to punish sinners.
Whenever these two are in proximity of each other there is a magnetic pull that claws at their very existence. Both struggle to fight their ever growing attraction.
Gods what to say about Nate, his character just oozes sex appeal off the pages, he's a sizzling hot alpha male, if I had a teacher that looked like him, spoke like him, damn the consequences I'd be gunning for his ass!!
Just so we're clear, if we cross this line...Every part of you will belong to me from this point forward until we fuck each other out of our systems. ~ Nate
Thank you for finally giving me epic!! I haven't read epic for months! I was slowly thinking epic didn't exist until you proved me wrong with this book!! Epically unputdownable!! I could sit here ranting and raving how much I loved this book, but the fact that it's sitting on my favourites shelf of 2017 speaks for itself. I highly recommend this series, you won't be disappointed!!
It's been some time since I've read a book that took so little effort by the author to captivate me, but Breaking Gravity did just that. This author had me eating out of the palm of her hand, I've only read a few teacher/student novels and this surpassed all my expectations, I lived it, breathed it, inhaled it, loved it.
If you think you're going to encounter a fan girl in Elon crushing on her all time crush think again, she's sassy, sexy, saucy and has such a wicked sense of humour many a time I was gigging away as though I'd had a breath of laughing gas. This author fast became one of my all time favorites after I read and fell in love with her characters in 'Fall Back Skyward' all her characters come alive, and each and everyone of them steals a little piece of your heart once you close that last page.
Even though this is part of a series it can be read as a complete standalone but I highly recommend that you read ‘Fall Back Skyward’

Once, I was nothing. Hungry, abandoned, wandering, and alone. An adolescent street rat fighting for crumbs. Then a chance encounter changed my entire world. A man in an expensive suit asked me how much my life was worth. I didn't have an answer, because I didn't know. He asked if I thought it was worth killing for. Impulsively, I said yes...
He found me, then fostered me, and in the interim turned me into a killing machine. A modern day La Femme Nikita.
Now, I only have one mission. To avenge the death of the man who saved me.
There's an invisible war on the streets. Us against them. Family against family. Power against power.
They call me Ghostface Killer because they never see me coming.
I understand the weight of that danger. The hazard. The jeopardy.
Because now here I stand, three months pregnant with the barrel of a gun pressed to my head cause I never saw him coming...
GHOSTFACE KILLER: I blame it all on the cover, one look and I wanted to read this, I didn’t look at the synopsis or who the author was, a request later and I had this in my grabby little hands. This is also a first time read for me by this author, but after finishing this book it definitely won't be my last read by this author.
They say ignorance is bliss, I was certainly ignorant when I started this, the author didn’t slowly entice me in the dark, no she stood behind me and pushed me into pure darkness. The beginning of this lulled me into a false sense of security, then I could feel the anticipation building until I couldn’t believe what I was reading, no warning whatsoever, no clue as to what was going to come at me full throttle.
In the ’Prologue’ is where it all begins. We’re introduced to a 14 year old Stevie a street urchin who has no qualms pickpocketing to fill her empty stomach. Until she pickpockets from the wrong man and things take a turn for the worst.
Handed over to a law abiding man she’s thrown into the back of a cop car with the threat of juvie staring her in the face for grand larceny in the third degree. The man in the driver's seat is a devil with a badge and a free pass to terrorise the city. I’m his latest victim.
Making a deal with the devil would’ve been easier when she agrees to let him have his way with her if he turns a blind eye and releases her, her only ticket to freedom, or so she thought, what happens next was not part of the deal. He raped me all night. In every which way.
He said he liked to break slutty little bitches like me. And he did just that. He broke me.
Then her fate is sealed when he takes her back to the precinct and throws her in a cell. To await her fate in the hands of the system.
Then the man that handed her over to the cop came back to her with a proposition, is she jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire? Would she have been better off doing her time at Juvie?
How much is your life worth?
To say I was hooked is an utter understatement, I’m a glutton for punishment, it’s not the darkest I’ve read but it offers that surprise factor where you just never know what this author is going to throw at you next. Nothing is glossed over, it’s all right there in front of your face in full detail. Twists and turns keeps you sitting on the edge of your seat, as you fall harder and harder in love with this book.
Slowly once under Benny’s wing where he offers a roof over her head he then trained her to be a ruthless killer, she became his ghost, sent out on jobs to kill, his secret weapon, his killing machine.
Born into nothing, ignored, neglected, harassed, raped, beaten, and then turned into a killer.
Her nickname on the streets is Ghostface Killer because they don’t know who she is, who sent her. She has the perfect element of surprise, no one suspects a female. A contract killer.
Until she meets twenty-eight year old Baz everything is put on the line..This man is the undoing of her. This is where it all starts to unravel. Get ready for one hell of a roller coaster ride!! This author pulls out all the stops!!
This book put me through all the paces, I felt like an adrenaline junkie reading chapter by chapter just to get my fix, seconds, minutes, hours spent with my nose in this book made the outside world cease to exist. This book just ticked all my boxes, i love books like this, nail biting, swoon worthy, high octane adrenaline, biting edge anticipation.
I highly highly recommend this!! One click come release day, you won't regret it!!
Still Waters (Greenstone Security #1) by Anne Malcom
TITLE: Still Waters
SERIES: (Greenstone Security #1)
AUTHOR: Anne Malcom
GENRE: Contemporary Romance
RELEASE DATE: 31st March, 2017
There’s a phrase: Still waters run deep.
But there’s more to it than that.
Because "still" doesn’t denote peace. Nor calm. Nor happiness.
It’s an illusion. It's chaos.
The only way to handle chaos is to become it.
That’s what Lucy did. She created stillness out of the chaos tumbling inside her and called the most chaotic motorcycle club in the United States her family.
The Sons of Templar gave her chaos, friendship, family, danger and death.
But she wouldn't want it any other way.
Then he came. The one who showed her that her handle on chaos was tumultuous at best.
Showed her how to stand still.
And how good it could be.
And how drowning in those waters comes as easy as breathing.
Still Waters is the first book in The Greenstone Security Series by Anne Malcom. I've only read one other book by this author so I'm keen to see what kind of journey she takes me on with this book!!
Lucy has been surrounded by the ‘Sons of Templar’ most of her life, so to see her living it up in her expensive heels drinking her fav margarita at one of their parties is the norm, she’s also sworn off men within the chapter, so when a hot guy with no cut walks into the party all claims are off.
Stop the freaking bus!!
’He was hotter up close. Way hotter. Adonis had competition. Shit RAGNAR from ‘Vikings’ had competition. His skin was milky chocolate, smooth apart from the peppering of stubble on his sharp jaw.’
Gasps no one is hotter than RAGNAR!!
* The author was not hurt during the write up or after this review at any time *
Ok as you were!!
In the beginning I felt like I was missing a big chunk of the story, nothing seemed to make sense, but after a quick glance at a review it’s stated that Lucy’s character was first introduced in the ‘Sons of Templar’ series, but that doesn’t stop you enjoying this story if like me you’ve not read that series you still get a grasp on her background and what makes her tick as you progress further into the story so that didn’t take that away from my enjoyment of this book.
Lucy has endured so much heartache, loss and suffering in her lifetime, more than any one person should ever have to endure, your heartstrings will be pulled in many directions reading through the suffering she has survived. In some aspects it’s hardened her towards finding love and this is where she's like an ice queen not allowing many to get too close to her. She's a solitary person, has one childhood friend she's unbelievably close too and that's about it other than her sibling but she's ok with that.
Instead of dreamin' about the woman with skin as white as snow, hair as black as night, a vocabulary that would make a sailor blush and a pussy that would start fuckin' wars- ones I'd fight and win in by the way, instead of dreaming of her. I'm literally living my fuckin' dream.
Being a kiwi myself it was nice reading about a hot kiwi male those are few and far between when it comes to books and boy this man puts all other men to shame, he’s as alpha as they come, when he sets his mind on something nothing gets in his way!! NOTHING!!
“I meet a girl with hair as black as night, skin as white as snow, lips to make a priest forget his vows and a body that a certain soldier can’t seem to get out of his mind”
Lucy or Snow as Keltan aptly names her is a stubborn sassy, sexy heroine and Keltan our hot kiwi fella, is an ex soldier and a very determined man when it comes to Lucy who doesn't back off when many a man would.
You're broken too. Not in a way I can fix, though I'd give a fuckin' limb to do so. I was right in thinking you were royalty, babe. A kind of princess. But not one any man can save. You've gotta save yourself. I've gotta let you. I'll wait. And hope that's gonna happen in time for you to realise that you're not the only one who's broken. And you're not the only one you need to fix.
I don’t want to give too much away with the storyline but I highly suggest come release day you grab that credit card out, blow the cobwebs off it and one click this!!

Watchmaker. Car thief. Heartbreaker extraordinaire.
Rooke Blackheath has spent enough time in juvie to know that he really doesn’t want to go to jail. The food sucks, the clothes itch, and there are absolutely no women in sight. Well…none he wants to fuck, anyway.
He should probably stop boosting cars, but the money is stellar and the high is out of this world. And why should he turn his back on something that sets his soul on fire anyway?
The answer to that question comes in an unexpected form: a petite five-foot-three firecracker named Sasha who refuses to give him the time of day no matter how thick he lays on the charm.
Rooke’s not easily deterred, though. Just like the watches he builds from scratch, Rooke knows all too well how women tick. Women are a game to him. A game he always wins.
Sasha doesn’t stand a chance.
Sasha Cross’s life has been permanently derailed since her son died five years ago. You wouldn’t know it to look at her, of course. She has a great job, a beautiful house, and caring friends. Every week, she hosts a book club featuring the sexiest, most romantic stories on the planet, and every week she falls for a new fictional knight in shining armor.
Fictional men are perfect, though. They don’t hurt you. They don’t break your heart. They don’t cheat on you after your child dies, and they rarely ever leave the toilet seat up.
When Rooke Blackheath shows up at Sasha's workplace, it’s clear he’s nothing like the men who grace the pages of Sasha's favorite books. Dangerous, arrogant, sharp-tongued and sarcastic, Rooke’s not the kind of guy she needs in her life. Not to mention the fact that he’s eleven years her junior.
They don’t live in different worlds. As far as Sasha is concerned, Rooke lives in a different galaxy altogether. She’d like to keep it that way, but fate appears to have other plans.
When Cinderella lost her shoe, Prince Charming showed up at her door.
When Sasha Cross loses her book, an entirely different kind of rogue comes a-knocking.
A rook is a chess piece, but it's also a kind of crow. Dark, mysterious, clever, wily and brazen.
ROOKE: In the beginning chapters we're introduced to thirty-three year old Sasha Connor as she relives the horrific, tragic accident which occurred five years ago, something a mother should never have to go through. Every night as she tries to settle down to sleep the day she lost her boy Christopher plays on through her mind in techno colour, the what if game playing havoc on her emotions.
She still lives in the house where she gave birth to her boy, his room is like a shrine, locked, left exactly how it was left the day he was taken from her. She works as a curator at the American Museum of Natural History, she has great supportive friends and holds a book club in her house every other week where she gets lost in the throes of the most perfect fictional men.
These books are my escape from real life. Because you know what? Real life fucking sucks.
The day Rooke Blackheath shows up at Sasha's workplace as she stumbles into Rooke, dropping the book she had her nose buried in ( The Seven Lives of James P. Albrecht), she can't help but compare the fictional men over Rooke. And it becomes abundantly clear that he’s nothing like the men who feature in her favorite romance books.
Thinking nothing else of their unusual encounter it's not until the next book club where a knock on the door reveals Rooke brandishing the book she'd dropped that day. Allowing him access into her home and club he immerses himself in the ladies only group conversing over the book he's returning and which he has no qualms admitting wholeheartedly that he'd read it from cover to cover.
Twenty-three nearly twenty-four year old Rooke has a checkered past, he'd done a stint in juvi for as he puts it borrowing a vehicle which didn't in fact belong to him. But that hasn't deterred him going back to what he's best at, and that's a thief in the night.
Watchmaker. Car thief. Heartbreaker extraordinaire.
There are fools out there that take a full thirty seconds to get a car open. Me, on the other hand? Two seconds. Three maybe if I'm off my game. I'm that fucking good.
Things between these two escalate slowly, she's promised him one date, but that one date gave her a glimpse into a life she couldn't comprehend, and from that day forward he wasn't letting her out of his clutches easily. He knew what he wanted and he was going after it.
I'm drawn to that hollow look in her eyes. I'm drawn to the sadness of her. I'm attracted to the dark ache in her soul.
I went through a range of emotions whilst reading this, the first emotion was tears in my eyes, sitting there feeling everything the author wanted me to feel in the first few chapters was an emotional rollercoaster of epic proportions.
The man is sex. Pure, unadulterated, unfiltered sex. From the way he walks, to the way he wears his clothes, to the ink that marks his body...Everything about Rooke Idlewild Blackheath screams...F#CK ME!
The second emotion was swooning, wow what can I say about Rooke, you've just got to read this to get a taste of the man. Just wow. He's everything you don't want but everything you need. His job is unconventional at best, his obnoxiousness had me panting for more. His overall demeanor kept me wanting to know everything little detail about the man.
I'll take a part of your soul. Give me the wounded part. Give me the part that hurts you every time you breathe. Give me the part that feels so heavy you just don't think you can carry it anymore. I'll take care of it for you.
The third emotion that zapped through me was fear, sitting on the edge of my seat whilst reading her second life changing ordeal.
So to sum it all up this book just ticked all the boxes, the cover lived up to the written words within, everything I wanted and craved this author delivered it ten fold. Highly recommend this. 1-#Click release day recommendation.
The love between us is fire and ice. It’s loss, and it’s redemption. It’s pain, and it’s comfort. It is everything.
