Synopsis
Before he discovered my age, he uncovered my heart.
Bruised and abused, and victim to a loveless household, I shimmered with new life the moment he found me drowning my sorrows in a lake beneath the stars.
A chance encounter. An unspoken connection.
I was smitten; he was curious.
But, as everyone knew, fate could be decidedly cruel.
He called me Halley, like the comet.
I called him Reed.
And my best friend?
Well…she called him Dad.
Older is a forbidden, slow-burn, age-gap romance standalone, ending in an HEA.

'O𝐋D𝐄R' Is a full length age gap romance book by Jennifer Hartmann.
As soon as I saw this one doing the rounds I couldn't wait to get my hands on it, and once it landed on my ipad I was super excited to dive in..This author fast became one of my favourites.
Everything this author writes I will read and I'll know I'll come away with my heart full to bursting, and even though I still stick by that, this book kind of felt too drawn out, (over 1,000 pages on my ibooks app) I understand character development came into play but not a lot really happened for the majority of the book until we start hitting over the halfway mark and then that's when we really got down to the nitty gritty side of things and that's when that pull on my heartstrings started occurring.
The beginning: pulled me in straight away
The middle: made me lose interest
The ending: wrung all the feels.
For me this would've definitely been a 5 star read if some of the middle was removed, it just made it too drawn out when it didn't need to be. I loved seeing Halley's growth, learning her true worth, her strength and deep love for those close to her, her ability to brush herself off and keep on fighting to live another day. I loved how she fought for a love that was pure, for the man who showed her how to love and be loved back.
I loved how Reed wasn't pushy, was her strong pillar of strength to lean on when she needed him, he deserved to be loved age be damned.
This definitely pushed the slow burn to its limits. There was so much to love with this book, this authors unique storylines cemented why she's one of my unicorn authors, even though this wasn't a favourite of mine, it doesn't take away the fact that whatever she writes I'll be there for it.
