Archer's Voice is the story of a woman chained to the memory of one horrifying night and the man whose love is the key to her freedom. 'My Review'
I'd doing a re-read before Travis hits us this month!! I read this back in 2014, and I'm just a few chapters in but what sticks out is how well this is written it just shows what an outstanding writer this author is. This book hasn't aged at all.
This book was truly beautiful, unique, unputdownable, heartfelt, I loved this even more the second time around. The feels grabbed ahold of me and it felt like I'd come home after a long trip away, a feeling of nostalgic hit.
Bree Prescott needed an escape, she'd lost her father suddenly, tragically by a random shooter entering their place of work. Jumping in her car she drove until she landed in a quaint little town called Pelion where she would make her home for the time being. Renting a cozy little cottage right on the lake perfect for her and her little dog.
Her first little adventure into town she spills her groceries over the pavement, it's here when a stranger stops and helps her pick them up that she first encounters Archer. A ruggedly handsome man but she found it hard to distinguish his features due to the fact that his long hair and unkempt beard covered most of his face. No words were exchanged. Only a fleeting glance. Before he walked away.
Our eyes met and seemed to tangle. His were deep and whiskey-coloured, framed by long dark lashes. Beautiful. As I stared at him, it felt like something moved between us.
She was immediately drawn to him. Something about him called to her. As she asked around about the strange man she met she started to piece the pieces of his puzzle together.
Archer Hale, was marred by tragedy, the towns outcast and freak, a survivor of a tragic shooting which took away his voice leaving him a mute, he only ventures off his property unless it's absolutely necessary.
He doesn't easily trust anyone. Until the girl he helped on the sidewalk pick up her fallen items walks onto his property one day with a small dog in tow and breaks down his walls each time she comes to visit. They communicate by sign language which she knows as her father was deaf and that was their main communication.
Archer is a truly unique character, so childlike in his demeanour but all man in others, he truly pulled on my heart strings. I laughed in places and cried in others for this boy who was shut away from the world isolated from others and viewed as a freak, a mute, a wounded soul..But oh how much I loved his gentle soul.
