Synopsis

The first letter arrived the day my husband was buried. It was postmarked from the state penitentiary, and contained a single sentence:

I’ll wait forever if I have to.

It was signed by Dante, a man I didn’t know.

Out of simple curiosity, I wrote back to ask him what exactly he was waiting for. His reply?

You.

I told the mystery man he had the wrong girl. He said he didn’t. I said we’d never met, but he said I was wrong.

We went back and forth, exchanging letters every week that grew increasingly more intimate. Then one day, the letters stopped. When I found out why, it was already too late.

Dante was at my doorstep.

And nothing on earth could have prepared me for what happened next.

This review is kind of going to be on the vague side of things as I don't want to spoil it for others, just go in blind and become flabbergasted like the rest of us because nothing is what it seems in this book, I for one was all for the pen pal relationship between an inmate and Kayla, did we get that? Yeah but Nah, we kind of did but we also kind of didn't. I know that doesn't make sense but believe me when I say neither does this book because it's kind of mind fuckery making you question everything. And if you hear a creak on the floorboards and freak the fuck out blame it on this book!!

This book was one I was highly anticipating, and couldn’t wait to get my hands on it, once on my kindle life was forgotten.

Knowing that this was going to be an unconventional story had me forging ahead into the unknown, like the seasoned author she is this pulled me in effortlessly and didn’t let go even after I’d closed out of that last page. The next day and my minds still stuck in this book.

Admittedly once I’d finished inhaling this I had a ‘What the fuck’ did I read kind of reaction because I did not see this story heading in the direction it did and was blindsided and flabbergasted but enjoyed it all the same.

This was beyond unique and was the perfect escape on this stormy winter weather, it fitted this story perfectly. This is not what we're normally used to seeing by this author and I hope she writes more similar to this book.
