AUTHOR: MIA SHERIDAN
GENRE: ROMANTIC SUSPENSE
PUBLICATION: NOVEMBER 01ST, 2023
Synopsis
The chilling story of the abduction of two teenagers, their escape, and the dark secrets that, years later, bring them back to the scene of the crime.
It’s senior-year spring break, and Noelle Meyer and Evan Sinclair have been kidnapped. Neither knows why they were chosen, only that they share a tragic past: Evan’s father got away with killing Noelle’s mother, effectively ruining her family when the death was ruled an accident.
Despite the connection that should have made them enemies, the teens instead unite to face their other common denominator—their abductors. Noelle and Evan survive one sadistic circumstance after another, eventually making a harrowing escape. But every happy ending comes at a price…
Years later, Evan, now a private investigator, revisits the crime when he learns it may be ongoing. He reaches out to Noelle for help, and they discover that the answers lie with a man known only as the Collector. To close their case and solve the ones that followed, Noelle and Evan must unmask this mysterious spectator—the only man who knows enough secrets to take their captors down.

Is a dark full length, stand-alone suspenseful romance book, spoken in dual POV's.
When Mia started dropping those little teasers about this book, I knew I had to read it! It’s darker than she’s ever gone before, but not dark enough for my disturbed little heart that thrives within the dark tales authors weave.
It didn’t really delve into the darkness, for me it was glossed over, yes she was a virgin who was rented out, raped, but it wasn’t in vivid detail.
Captures had a choice either a body part was severed from the other captive being held beside their cage or that person too was rented out and something horrendous was done to them within a separate room, yet again, it was glossed over, we could only guess at what had happened.
For some this would be dark, for others it could’ve gone darker, a lot darker.
For me it missed that emotional attachment I was hoping to seek when it came to our heroine, I wanted to feel her fear, but yet again it was just out of reach.
Though it kept me captivated, the twists and turns came at me full force, one after the other that I didn't see coming.
Our heroine and hero find themselves waking up in the dark, in cages, though she's been there a bit longer than he has, their kidnapping isn't as random as they thought. But who's behind it? And why? These two were sworn enemies due to Evan's father shooting and killing Noelle's mother years previously during a breaking and entering of his father's property. The courts cleared his father.
This was similar to SAW, the parts where the captives woke up chained etc, theses two woke up in cages, streamed live to only the contestants, clever little gifts handed to them on their dinner trays, if they were clever enough they could aid them in escaping, but for others they weren’t so lucky.
We don't know who the watchers were but one man sticks out above the rest and he goes by the name 'The Collector' was he there to aid the kidnappers or was he playing his own sick game?
This definitely had me playing that guessing game, even though it fell a wee bit flat for me in parts I still overall enjoyed them teaming up and working together as a unit to solve the puzzle of their abduction.
