Sofia
I knew little of Raphael Amado’s history with my family, but when he turned up on our doorstep demanding restitution, my grandfather quickly conceded. That restitution? Me.
Six months later, on my eighteenth birthday, Raphael came for me. He stole me from my home, taking me to his Tuscan estate, where from the crumbling chapel to the burnt-down vineyard, to the cellar that haunted him, the past stalked him like a shadow. It waited for him, hid behind corners for him and trapped him at every turn.
As much as Raphael's cruelty terrified me, his darkness seduced me. But in the end, it was his tenderness that devastated me.
Raphael
Sofia came to me like an offering. Like a virgin to be sacrificed at the altar. But truth was, her grandfather betrayed her. I guess we had that in common. He’d screwed me too.
I knew hate. I'd vowed vengeance. This was never supposed to be about anything else. But in the end, her innocence broke me. The very thing I would destroy, destroyed me.

OMG!! When I started this for the life of me I couldn't put it down GOD I LOVED the SHIT out of this BOOK!! The beginning is*gulps*racing through my mind that thought like a broken record * what the fuck is going on*, then the next chapter or so the *feels*start coming at you *full throttle*, and it just escalated more as I progressed further into this book.

My Grandfather, a man who should protect me, would give me to a stranger.
Raphael has deep rooted psychological issues ranging from physical abuse, emotional and metal abuse as a child at the hands of his father, which have scarred him from the inside out.
Raphael is a man so filled with hate and vengeance, Sophia's family was the root cause of all this hurt, he's out to wreck havoc and bring them down, they are pawns in his twisted game, but the lines many a time become blurred.
Damaged beyond repair. That was me. That was what I was. A wrecked monster. A killer. A hateful vengeful beast. - Raphael
These two characters are the perfect blend of broken and strong, he's met his match when it comes to Sophia, in the beginning I thought she'd be a meek little mouse but she's a tough little spitfire, he doesn't know what's hit him when it comes to her. He tries to be dominant and possessive of her but at every turn it backfires when she doesn't cower and become scared. What starts off with hate burning in his belly turns into a slow burn love.
It's right to go into this thinking it's going to be all dark and all that shit but it's not at all, the author has done a great job of reining that in, this gripped me by the heart in the worst but best possible way, the pace of the story, her use of words, all perfect, this author fast became one of my favourites each and every book I've read of hers I have loved, I think this one though is one of my favourites by her, just showed a softer side of her writing abilities.
