Synopsis
From USA Today & Wall Street Journal bestselling author Michelle Heard, comes a new, full-length Dystopian Romance novel.
Over the past five decades, the dome over our Ecocity has protected us from the deviants living in the forbidden territory. Since the great war ended, our lives have consisted of virtue and order.
Once a year, seven people are sent out to the forbidden lands to see if there are any deviants worth saving. None have returned, only increasing people's fear of what lies beyond the safe border of the dome.
When I’m chosen as a crusader, the world, as I know it, is ripped from under my feet. In the forbidden territory, I learn things I never dreamed existed – a world I’ve been totally oblivious to. I meet people who freely show emotion and affection. People who dare make their own choices.
It’s frightening and the opposite of everything I’ve ever known.
Suddenly, I have to fight for my life. I’m thrown into chaos where time is running out to become a skilled fighter who will be an asset for the coming war. But my mind’s bombarded with questions – who’s right and who’s wrong? Which side should I fight on?
I don’t belong in this world filled with cruelty and depravity.
Then there’s Chance, my reluctant trainer. The man is the definition of deadly and so attractive I struggle to think straight around him. I’m also pretty sure he would love nothing more than to snap my neck. Cruel, impatient, and harsh, he’s a brute who seems annoyed by my existence.
Honestly, I’m not sure I will survive living with the deviants, never mind fighting in a war. Unless I find my courage and learn to fight for myself, I fear this new world will crush me.

My Review
'🅲🆁🆄🅴🅻🅴🆂🆃 🅾🅱🅻🅸🆅🅸🅾🅽'
Is the first full length romance book in the 'CRUELEST OBLIVION' series by author Michelle Heard. Chance & Jai.
This is something we've never seen before by this author and I for one was along for the ride, as soon as it went live on Amazon it was on my ipad in a flash.
Not something I would normally jump on but I've been broadening my reading tastes this year and have been trying new things and have found I've enjoyed them and this book was no different. It was easy to get into, and yet again was different to what one can expect from this author with the way in which she's known to blindside her readers, this one had no traps, a cliffy but not, which is another surprise by this author because usually she can throw the biggest bombs I've come across.
The storyline was unique, it had a similar vibe to the series 'The handmaid's tale' where woman are used for one thing and one thing only and that's to breed. With the seven virtues rules that they had to abide by humility, charity, chastity, diligence, temperance, patience and kindness. But with the Jai's twentieth birthday on the arise her mind has been wandering and starts to question things around her, scared that if she doesn't control or tone down her emotions she could be vanished from the only life she's ever known.
Jai finds herself thrust in the role as a crusader in the outside world where things aren't what she's been taught, her only hope to survive is Chance, a man her father entrusts to keep her safe in the outside world.
Chance had one mission and one mission only and that was to keep his brother safe, Jai was a spanner thrown into the works, one he wasn't prepared for, one which had him questioning himself, because what was it about her that brought out the need to protect her above all others?
I can't wait for the next instalment!!
