Sometimes it's the smallest stories that have the greatest impact.
1970: In this we meet Janey Martin a young twenty year old aspiring Journalist who was chasing one of the biggest stories in California about the Vietnam war and and the surrounding protests whilst capturing it all on her trusty camera she finds herself caught right in amongst it all and found herself in hot water and arrested. This was the last straw for her father who sends her off to France a place where he thinks she will be away from all the trouble that's escalating.
Adrien Rousseau is a football extraordinaire who is going to lead his team to victory, they are only a few points away from third place in their division, if their team can get into third they will advance to professional league and Janey is the journalist that is going to cover his story. Apart from being the countries football hero he's a second year medical student.
As she delves further into what makes Adrien tick she uncovers things about him where the real story lies. And that's what sets him apart from the rest of the jocks she's interviewed previously. She slowly realises that he's not just a rich, arrogant cocky jock with a different girl on his arm every weekend.
Even though this was a short read I still got the feels when it came to connecting with the two characters, I just wished this was longer than what it was but what we were given a lot was packed within the pages. I loved that Adrien wasn't your normal football star though he did have his pick of woman he had many hardships he had to wade through to support ones he loved, a moving tale like no other.
It’s spring, 1970. The Vietnam War has been raging for years with no end in sight. Janey Martin, a California college student and aspiring journalist is tired of writing puff pieces about her university men’s sports teams. She wants to be taken seriously as a journalist and as a woman. With riots at their doorstep, her wealthy father sends Janey to the Sorbonne in Paris to finish her college education away from the chaos.
Janey is reluctant to leave the Big Story that is Vietnam, but vows to prove herself. Much to her dismay, her first assignment is to interview the hotshot star forward of a local soccer team. Janey is sure Adrien Rousseau is going to be like every other playboy jock she’s ever dealt with, but quickly learns there is much more to Adrien than meets the eye.
The mysterious, sexy footballer just might be the biggest story of Janey’s life.
